There are no official GTA 6 PC system requirements. Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC version at all yet. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, and a GamesBeat report says the PC version is planned for the first quarter of 2027.

That means every “GTA 6 PC requirements” list you’ve seen is an estimate. This page explains how to make a sensible one, based on the consoles GTA 6 is built for and Rockstar’s last two PC releases, and why you shouldn’t upgrade just yet.

Rockstar’s past PC requirements

The best guide to GTA 6’s requirements is how Rockstar handled its last two PC releases.

GTA 5 on PC (2015)

Minimum Recommended
CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or AMD Phenom 9850 Intel Core i5 3470 or AMD FX-8350
RAM 4 GB 8 GB
GPU NVIDIA 9800 GT 1 GB or AMD HD 4870 1 GB NVIDIA GTX 660 2 GB or AMD HD 7870 2 GB
Storage 65 GB 65 GB

Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC (2019)

Minimum Recommended
CPU Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-6300 Intel Core i7-4770K or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X
RAM 8 GB 12 GB
GPU NVIDIA GTX 770 2 GB or AMD Radeon R9 280 3 GB NVIDIA GTX 1060 6 GB or AMD RX 480 4 GB
Storage 150 GB 150 GB

In both cases, Rockstar’s minimum requirements were set at roughly the level of the consoles the game first launched on, and the recommended specs were a step above. If GTA 6 follows that pattern, the minimum will sit around the power of a PS5 or Xbox Series S, and the recommended specs above that.

What PS5-level hardware looks like on PC

GTA 6 is built for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Here’s the rough PC equivalent of that hardware:

Component PS5 / Xbox Series X Rough PC equivalent
CPU Custom 8-core AMD Zen 2, about 3.5 GHz AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or similar
GPU Custom AMD RDNA 2 AMD RX 6700 or NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super class
Memory 16 GB shared 16 GB system RAM plus a GPU with 8 GB or more
Storage Fast NVMe SSD NVMe SSD

PCs usually need a bit more than the console equivalent to match console results, because console games are optimized for one fixed set of hardware.

Our estimate: what GTA 6 on PC will likely need

This is our estimate, not official information. We’ll replace it with Rockstar’s requirements as soon as they’re published.

Likely minimum Likely recommended
CPU Modern 6-core, such as Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i5-10400 Modern 8-core, such as Ryzen 7 5700X or Core i7-12700
RAM 16 GB 32 GB
GPU RTX 2060 Super, RX 6600 or similar, 8 GB RTX 3070 or RX 6800 class, or newer
Storage 150 GB or more on an SSD 150 GB or more on an NVMe SSD
OS 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 64-bit Windows 11

Why these numbers:

  • CPU matters a lot. GTA 6 runs at 30fps on consoles, and dense crowds and traffic are usually CPU-heavy. A strong CPU will matter for higher frame rates.
  • 8 GB of video memory is now the practical floor for current-generation games at reasonable settings.
  • SSD storage is close to essential. Many current-generation games list an SSD as a requirement, and GTA 6 streams huge amounts of detail as you move.
  • 16 GB of RAM is the realistic minimum for big open-world games in 2026, and 32 GB gives headroom.

Why you shouldn’t upgrade your PC yet

It’s tempting to buy new parts now, but it doesn’t make sense:

  1. There’s no PC version announced. Even if the Q1 2027 report is right, that’s months away.
  2. The real requirements might surprise. Rockstar’s PC versions often scale well, running on older hardware at lower settings.
  3. Hardware gets cheaper. Graphics cards and CPUs drop in price and new models launch regularly.
  4. New PC features matter. Upscaling and frame generation technology, such as NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR, can make a big difference. Which ones GTA 6 supports will affect what GPU you need.

The best time to upgrade is after Rockstar publishes official requirements, ideally after early performance tests of the PC version.

Be careful with “GTA 6 PC” downloads and checkers

  • “Can I run it” tools that claim to test your PC against GTA 6’s requirements can’t be accurate yet, because there are no official requirements.
  • “GTA 6 PC downloads” are scams. Researchers have found fake GTA 6 installers carrying password stealers and ransomware. See our GTA 6 free download guide.

What to expect from GTA 6 on PC

Based on Rockstar’s past PC versions:

  • Higher frame rates than the 30fps console target, with the right hardware
  • Higher resolutions and extra graphics settings beyond console quality
  • Ultrawide monitor support, which both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 offered on PC
  • Rockstar Games Launcher required, even if you buy on Steam or the Epic Games Store
  • Mods, which Rockstar doesn’t officially support in single-player but which have been huge for GTA 5 on PC

Will GTA 6 run on a gaming laptop?

A good gaming laptop should be able to run the PC version, but laptops are less powerful than desktops with the same part names. A laptop RTX 4060, for example, usually performs below a desktop RTX 4060. If you’re planning to play on a laptop, check reviews of your exact model once GTA 6’s PC requirements are out, and expect to use upscaling like DLSS or FSR.

Will GTA 6 run on Steam Deck or a handheld PC?

Probably not well, if at all. Handheld PCs like the Steam Deck are much less powerful than a PS5, and GTA 6 already targets 30fps on PS5. Newer handhelds are more capable, but GTA 6 will be one of the most demanding games around when it reaches PC. There’s also no PC version yet, so nothing can be confirmed.

Building a PC for GTA 6

If you’re planning a new PC for GTA 6, here’s how to approach it without wasting money:

  1. Wait for the official requirements. They’ll tell you whether the CPU or the GPU matters more.
  2. Prioritize the CPU and RAM for open-world games with dense crowds, and don’t skimp on a fast NVMe SSD.
  3. Get enough video memory. 8 GB is the floor for current-generation games, and 12 GB or more gives you room for higher settings.
  4. Check upscaling support. Whether GTA 6 supports DLSS, FSR or XeSS will affect which GPU is the best value.
  5. Wait for benchmarks. Independent performance tests after the PC launch are the best guide to real-world results.

When will the official requirements be released?

Rockstar usually publishes PC requirements when it announces a PC version or opens pre-orders for it. For Red Dead Redemption 2, the official requirements appeared about a month before the PC release. If the Q1 2027 report is accurate, official GTA 6 requirements could arrive in late 2026 or early 2027. We’ll update this page the day they’re out.

GTA 6 PC vs console: which should you choose?

If you already own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, there’s no reason to wait for PC unless frame rate or mods matter most to you. The console version comes first, avoids spoilers and will be the version most players are on at launch. If you only game on PC, waiting is the only option, and you’ll likely get better performance in exchange for the delay.

When the requirements are published, we’ll add a simple checker to this page so you can compare your CPU, GPU and RAM against Rockstar’s minimum and recommended specs, along with our own recommendations for the best-value upgrades at each level.

The bottom line

There are no official GTA 6 PC system requirements, because Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC version. A GamesBeat report points to early 2027. Based on the PS5-level hardware GTA 6 is built for and Rockstar’s past PC releases, expect to need a modern 6- to 8-core CPU, 16 to 32 GB of RAM, a GPU with at least 8 GB of video memory and an SSD with 150 GB or more free. Don’t upgrade until the real requirements are out.
