GTA 6 release time: when it unlocks in every country and time zone

GTA 6 launches on Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Based on the PlayStation Store listing, the game is expected to unlock at midnight local time. That means there’s no single worldwide moment. Instead, it unlocks country by country as each one hits midnight, starting in New Zealand and finishing in Hawaii almost a full day later.

Right now that’s 34 days away in your time zone.

GTA 6 unlock time by country

The table below lists more than 20 regions in the order they unlock. The UTC column is fixed. The “Your time” column converts each unlock to the time zone your device is set to, so you can see when friends in other countries can start playing. Your own region is highlighted.

A couple of things to notice in the table:

• Most of Asia and all of Europe get the game on the evening of Wednesday, November 18 in UTC terms, even though it’s already past midnight on November 19 locally.
• The whole Americas region unlocks after the UK. New York gets the game five hours after London, and Los Angeles eight hours after.
• Mexico City and US Central unlock at the same moment. Mexico dropped daylight saving time in 2022, so in November it lines up with Chicago.

When does GTA 6 unlock in the US?

Each US time zone unlocks at its own midnight on Thursday, November 19. In practice:

Time zone	Local unlock	UTC
Eastern (New York, Miami, Atlanta)	12:00 am Thu, Nov 19	05:00
Central (Chicago, Dallas, Houston)	12:00 am Thu, Nov 19	06:00
Mountain (Denver, Phoenix)	12:00 am Thu, Nov 19	07:00
Pacific (Los Angeles, Seattle)	12:00 am Thu, Nov 19	08:00
Alaska	12:00 am Thu, Nov 19	09:00
Hawaii	12:00 am Thu, Nov 19	10:00

Daylight saving time ends on November 1, 2026, so by launch every US zone is back on standard time. Arizona doesn’t observe daylight saving, but that doesn’t matter here, since Mountain Standard Time and Arizona time are the same in November.

If you’re on the West Coast, that means friends in New York will have been playing for three hours before you start. If that bothers you, there’s not much you can do about it without changing your account region, which we’ll get to below.

When does GTA 6 unlock in the UK and Europe?

In the UK and Ireland, GTA 6 is expected to unlock at midnight GMT, as Wednesday night turns into Thursday, November 19. British Summer Time ends on October 25, 2026, so the UK is on GMT at launch, which is the same as UTC.

Most of continental Europe, including Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands, is on Central European Time. Midnight there is 23:00 UTC on November 18, so the continent gets the game one hour before the UK.

Portugal is on the same time as the UK, while Greece, Finland and Romania are an hour ahead of Central Europe and unlock at 22:00 UTC.

When does GTA 6 unlock in India and South Asia?

In India, GTA 6 is expected to unlock at 12:00 am IST on Thursday, November 19, which is 18:30 UTC on November 18. Sri Lanka is on the same time.

Elsewhere in the region:

• Pakistan unlocks at midnight PKT, 19:00 UTC on November 18, half an hour after India.
• Bangladesh unlocks at midnight BST (Bangladesh Standard Time), 18:00 UTC, half an hour before India.
• Nepal is on UTC+5:45, so it unlocks at 18:15 UTC, between Bangladesh and India.

That puts South Asian players more than 10 hours ahead of anyone in the US.

When does GTA 6 unlock in Australia and New Zealand?

New Zealand is first in the world. Auckland is on daylight saving time (NZDT, UTC+13) in November, so midnight there is 11:00 UTC on Wednesday, November 18.

Australia follows shortly after, but the country is split by both time zones and daylight saving:

• Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart observe daylight saving (UTC+11) and unlock at 13:00 UTC.
• Brisbane doesn’t observe daylight saving (UTC+10) and unlocks an hour later, at 14:00 UTC.
• Adelaide is on UTC+10:30 in November and unlocks at 13:30 UTC.
• Perth is on UTC+8 and unlocks at 16:00 UTC, three hours after Sydney.

When does GTA 6 unlock in the Middle East, Asia and Latin America?

• UAE and Oman: midnight Gulf time, 20:00 UTC on November 18.
• Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait: midnight Arabia time, 21:00 UTC.
• Japan and South Korea: midnight, 15:00 UTC on November 18.
• Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Hong Kong: midnight, 16:00 UTC.
• Brazil (Brasília time) and Argentina: midnight, 03:00 UTC on November 19. Brazil scrapped daylight saving in 2019, so this doesn’t shift.

Is the midnight unlock confirmed?

Not officially, and it’s worth being clear about this. Here’s what we know:

1. Rockstar has confirmed the date, not the hour. Rockstar’s official announcement only says GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026.
2. The PlayStation Store listing points to midnight local time. That’s how Sony usually handles big digital releases, and it’s where the expected unlock time on this page comes from.
3. Rockstar’s support page confirms preload starts at midnight local time on November 12. A midnight preload is a strong sign the release will follow the same pattern.

Some publishers choose a single worldwide unlock instead, where everyone gets the game at the same moment. That would mean New Zealand players start at the same time as everyone else, which could be in the middle of the night or the middle of the day depending on where you live. So far, nothing from Rockstar or the stores points that way.

If Rockstar announces a different unlock time, we’ll update this page and the table above on the same day.

Does Xbox unlock at the same time as PS5?

Microsoft often uses midnight local time for big digital releases as well, but some Xbox launches have unlocked at a set time by region instead. Until Rockstar or Microsoft confirms it, assume Xbox follows the same midnight local schedule, and check the Microsoft Store page closer to launch. If the two consoles end up with different times, we’ll split the table.

How to make sure you can play the moment it unlocks

The worst way to spend launch night is watching a progress bar. A few things to sort out before November 19:

1. Pre-order the digital version if you haven’t. Preloading is only available for pre-orders and redeemed codes. Our preload guide walks through it step by step.
2. Let it preload from November 12. The file is expected to be well over 100 GB, so give yourself the full week.
3. Leave your console in rest mode or sleep mode with downloads allowed, so the day-one patch installs on its own.
4. Sign in a few minutes early. PlayStation Network and Xbox Live usually get hit hard at big launches. Being signed in before midnight means your license check happens before the rush.
5. Check the editions guide if you’re deciding between Standard and Ultimate, since your edition needs to be sorted out before preload.

Physical copies: there’s a catch

The physical edition of GTA 6 reportedly comes as a download code in a box instead of a game disc. That means owning a physical copy doesn’t let you play any earlier. You’ll need to redeem the code and download the game like everyone else, and it unlocks at the same time as the digital version.

Some retailers occasionally hand out physical copies a few days before launch. With GTA 6, even if that happens, the code won’t let you play before the official unlock.

Can you play GTA 6 early with a different region?

Every big launch, people try to play early by switching to a New Zealand account or changing their console’s time zone. Here’s how that works in practice:

• Changing your console’s clock or time zone doesn’t help. Unlock times are checked against the store servers, not your console clock.
• A New Zealand account can technically get the game first, because the unlock is tied to the store region of the account that bought it. But you’d need to buy GTA 6 on that account, with that store’s currency, and your saves and purchases would live there.
• You can’t easily move your main account. PlayStation accounts can’t change region at all, so you’d need a second account. Xbox lets you change region only once every three months, and switching can affect your wallet balance and subscriptions.

For most players, 11 to 21 hours of head start isn’t worth the hassle. Plan around your local midnight instead.

What about the PC release time?

There isn’t one yet. Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC version of GTA 6, and Take-Two’s release list for its 2027 fiscal year only includes PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A GamesBeat report claims the PC version is planned for the first quarter of 2027. We’ve covered everything we know in our GTA 6 PC release date article.

The bottom line

GTA 6 is expected to unlock at midnight local time on Thursday, November 19, 2026. New Zealand gets it first, at 11:00 UTC on November 18, and the US West Coast is among the last, at 08:00 UTC on November 19. Preload from November 12, stay signed in, and you’ll be playing the minute it unlocks.
