Why was GTA 6 delayed?
Both times, Rockstar said it needed more time to deliver the game at the level of quality players expect. When it announced the move to November 19, 2026, Rockstar said the extra months would let it finish the game with the polish that fans deserve.
That’s consistent with Rockstar’s history. Red Dead Redemption 2 was delayed twice too, from 2017 to October 2018, and went on to be one of the best-reviewed and best-selling games ever made.
Release date vs release time

Will GTA 6 be delayed again?
It looks very unlikely. Several things point to November 19 holding:
- Pre-orders are open, at fixed prices, on official stores. Delaying after that is rare.
- Preload is scheduled for November 12 on Rockstar’s own support page. That only happens when a game is close to finished.
- The launch trailer is out. Launch trailers, released here on October 15, are typically among the last things made before release. This one even ends with the release date and age rating, a format built for TV and cinema ads.
- Take-Two has reaffirmed the date on its 2026 earnings calls. Take-Two is a publicly listed company, so its guidance to investors is taken seriously.
- Physical copies are being made. Retailers are taking pre-orders for the boxed edition, which reportedly contains a download code.
Five weeks from launch, a delay would be extraordinary. We’d still expect a day-one patch, which is normal for big releases.
How long has GTA 6 taken?
GTA 6 has been in development for about eight years, one of the longest productions in the industry. It will arrive more than 13 years after GTA 5, which came out in September 2013, the longest gap ever between main GTA games.

GTA 6 PC release date
Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC version. A GamesBeat report from October 13, 2026, citing four sources, says it’s planned for the first quarter of 2027. But Take-Two’s release list for its fiscal year ending March 2027 includes only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar has historically made PC players wait much longer: about 19 months for GTA 5 and about a year for Red Dead Redemption 2.

Is GTA 6 coming to PS4 or Xbox One?
No. GTA 6 is built for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar hasn’t announced, and isn’t expected to release, a version for PS4 or Xbox One. If you’re on an older console, you’ll need to upgrade to play.
That’s a change from GTA 5, which launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 and was later re-released on PS4, Xbox One, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
