GTA 6 PC release date: what the Q1 2027 report says, and what Rockstar hasn't
A new report says GTA 6 hits PC in early 2027. Take-Two's own release schedule doesn't include it. Here's how to read the conflicting signals, and how long Rockstar has made PC players wait before.

GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026, and there’s no PC version at launch. Rockstar hasn’t announced one, and it hasn’t given a date.
The most specific information so far comes from a GamesBeat report published on October 13, 2026, which says GTA 6 is coming to PC in the first quarter of 2027, citing four industry sources. That would be a far shorter wait than PC players have had for any previous Rockstar game. But there’s a complication: Take-Two’s own release schedule for the same period doesn’t include a PC version.
Here’s everything that’s confirmed, everything that’s reported, and how much weight to give each.
What the GamesBeat report says
On October 13, 2026, GamesBeat reported that Rockstar plans to release GTA 6 on PC in the first quarter of 2027, based on four industry sources familiar with the plans. The main points:
- Timing: Q1 2027, roughly January to March, which would be two to four months after the console launch.
- Quality bar: The PC version is expected to be held to the same standard as the console release, so the timing could move if it isn’t ready.
- No comment from Rockstar: Rockstar didn’t respond to GamesBeat’s request for comment before the story ran.
GamesBeat is an established games industry outlet, and four sources is more than most reports of this kind rely on. That makes it the most credible PC claim so far. But it’s still a report, not an announcement.
What Take-Two has said
Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company, has been careful not to confirm a PC version. Here’s what’s on the record:
Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, has talked about PC in general terms. On Take-Two’s May 2026 earnings call, Zelnick said the company’s games come to all platforms eventually and described PC as an important and growing platform. He didn’t say anything specific about GTA 6.
Take-Two’s fiscal 2027 release list doesn’t include PC. Take-Two’s fiscal year runs from April to March, so fiscal 2027 covers April 2026 to March 2027. Its published product list for that year includes GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only.
That second point matters. A PC release in calendar Q1 2027 would fall inside fiscal 2027. If Take-Two were confident about that window, you might expect it to show up in the company’s own release list.
How to read the conflict
There are a few ways both things could be true at once:
- Take-Two doesn’t list unannounced products. Companies often leave unannounced releases off their schedules until they’re ready to make them public. A PC version could be planned without being listed.
- The window could slip. Internal plans for early 2027 might not be firm enough to list publicly, especially with the stated quality bar.
- The report could be early. Sources may have described a target that Rockstar hasn’t committed to.
Our read: a PC version is coming eventually, almost certainly. The early 2027 timing is plausible but not locked in. If you only play on PC, expect an announcement after the console launch, not before it.
How long Rockstar has made PC players wait before
Rockstar has always launched its biggest games on console first. Here’s the track record:
| Game | Console release | PC release | Wait |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA 4 | April 2008 | December 2008 | About 7 months |
| GTA 5 | September 2013 | April 2015 | About 19 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 2018 | November 2019 | About a year |
| GTA 6 | November 2026 | Not announced | ? |
A Q1 2027 release would mean a wait of two to four months, the shortest of any of these. That’s possible: PC is a much bigger market now than it was in 2013, and the PC versions of Rockstar’s games have sold extremely well. But it would be a clear break from Rockstar’s usual approach.
Why Rockstar launches on console first
Rockstar hasn’t explained its reasons publicly, but the usual explanations are:
- Optimization. PCs come in thousands of hardware combinations. Getting a huge open-world game running well across all of them takes extra time.
- Piracy and cheating. A later PC release limits early leaks and gives Rockstar more time to prepare anti-cheat for the online mode.
- Double launch. A separate PC release gets its own wave of coverage and sales, effectively launching the game twice.
What PC will you need to run GTA 6?
Rockstar hasn’t published PC system requirements, and won’t until it announces a PC version. Be skeptical of any “official requirements” you see online right now. They’re guesses.
What we can say is that GTA 6 is built for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. As a loose guide, PC versions of current-generation console games usually need:
- A modern 6- or 8-core CPU
- 16 GB of RAM at minimum, 32 GB recommended for higher settings
- A graphics card roughly equivalent to an RTX 2070 or RX 6600 XT to match console-level visuals, and well beyond that for higher settings
- A fast SSD. Many current-generation games are built around SSD streaming and run poorly on hard drives.
- Plenty of storage. The console version is expected to need 150 to 200 GB. See our file size guide for details.
Treat this as a rough expectation, not a requirement list. We’ll publish the real requirements, and a way to compare them with your PC, as soon as Rockstar releases them.
What a PC version would likely include
Rockstar hasn’t said anything about a PC version, but its last two PC releases give a good idea of what to expect:
- Higher frame rates and resolutions. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC both supported unlocked frame rates and 4K and above.
- Ultrawide and multi-monitor support. Both games supported ultrawide displays, which the console versions didn’t.
- More graphics settings. Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC had one of the longest graphics menus of any game, including settings that went beyond the console versions.
- Rockstar Games Launcher. Recent Rockstar PC games need Rockstar’s own launcher, even when you buy them on Steam or the Epic Games Store.
- Mods. Rockstar has never officially supported mods in single-player, but GTA 5’s modding community is one of the biggest in gaming. Rockstar also brought the team behind FiveM, the popular GTA 5 roleplay platform, in-house in 2023.
None of this is confirmed for GTA 6. It’s what Rockstar has done before.
How we’ll know a PC version is coming
Rockstar tends to announce PC versions with little warning, but there are usually signs first:
- Take-Two earnings calls. Take-Two reports results every quarter, and any change to its release list would be the most reliable early signal.
- Age rating listings. Rating boards such as the ESRB and PEGI sometimes list a PC version before the publisher announces it.
- Store pages. A Steam or Epic Games Store page usually appears shortly before or at the announcement.
- Launcher updates. Dataminers watch the Rockstar Games Launcher for references to new games.
We’ll update this article as soon as any of these turn up something concrete.
Can you play GTA 6 on PC at launch any other way?
Not officially. GTA 6 hasn’t been announced for any cloud gaming service, including Xbox Cloud Gaming and PlayStation’s cloud streaming. Without cloud support, the only way to play on November 19 is on a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S.
What about PS5 emulators?
You may have seen talk about playing GTA 6 through a PS5 emulator on PC. No PS5 emulator can currently run a game like GTA 6 in a playable state, and emulating a game you don’t own on that system is piracy, which comes with real security risks. It isn’t a realistic way to play GTA 6.
Should you buy GTA 6 on console or wait for PC?
That depends on what matters most to you:
Buy on console if:
- You want to play at launch, alongside everyone else, and avoid story spoilers
- You already own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S
- You want to be part of GTA Online from day one, if Rockstar launches it alongside the game
Wait for PC if:
- You only game on PC and don’t want to buy a console
- You want higher frame rates, ultrawide support or mods, all of which have been big parts of GTA 5 on PC
- You don’t mind waiting months, possibly longer
If you go with console, your purchase won’t carry over to PC. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 both required a separate purchase on PC, so expect the same for GTA 6.
The bottom line
There’s no official GTA 6 PC release date. GamesBeat reports Q1 2027 based on four sources, which is the most credible claim so far, but Take-Two’s own fiscal 2027 schedule lists only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar’s history points to a longer wait.
If you’re on console, check exactly when GTA 6 unlocks for you. We’ll update this article the moment Rockstar or Take-Two says anything about PC.
