GTA 6 map: interactive map of Leonida, every region and how big it is
Leonida is Rockstar's version of Florida, and it's the biggest, most varied GTA map yet. Explore the six confirmed regions on our interactive map, and see what's known about its size.

GTA 6 takes place in Leonida, Rockstar’s satirical take on Florida. It’s the first time the series has returned to Vice City, its version of Miami, since 2006, and it’s set to be the biggest and most varied map Rockstar has ever built. It mixes a dense neon city with swamps, island chains, small towns, beaches and forests.
Use the interactive map below to explore the six regions Rockstar has confirmed. Drag to move around, scroll or use the buttons to zoom, and select a pin for details. We’ll add safehouses, shops, garages and collectibles after launch on November 19, 2026, once we’ve checked each location in the game.

Every confirmed region of the GTA 6 map
Rockstar introduced Leonida’s regions on its official website and in the trailers. Here’s what each one is, and where it sits on the map.
Vice City
Vice City is the heart of the GTA 6 map and its biggest urban area. It’s based on Miami, with beaches and art deco hotels along the coast, a downtown skyline, a busy cruise and cargo port, and a nightlife scene the trailers lean into heavily.
It’s also where most of the story’s supporting cast lives, including Boobie Ike and the artists at his label, Only Raw Records. Expect it to be the busiest part of the map for missions, shops and side activities.
Leonida Keys
The Leonida Keys are a chain of islands running off the southern tip of the state, based on the Florida Keys. The trailers show long bridges between the islands, boats, beach towns and bars.
It’s also home to Brian Heder, the veteran drug runner Jason works for.
Grassrivers
Grassrivers is a huge area of wetlands based on the Everglades. It’s full of swamps, mangroves and wildlife, and the trailers show airboats skimming across the water and alligators.
Wetlands are rare in open-world games, and Grassrivers looks set to be one of the most distinctive parts of Leonida.
Port Gellhorn
Port Gellhorn is a faded resort town on Leonida’s Gulf coast, a place that’s past its best. It’s a clear contrast to the glamour of Vice City.
Ambrosia
Ambrosia is an inland industrial town built around a sugar refinery. It represents rural, working-class Leonida, away from the coast and the tourists.
Mount Kalaga National Park
Mount Kalaga National Park covers the north of the state, with forests, rivers and trails. It’s Leonida’s wilderness, closer to the landscapes of Red Dead Redemption 2 than anything in GTA 5.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
This is the most-asked question about the GTA 6 map, and the honest answer is that Rockstar hasn’t published an official size. Here’s what’s out there, and how reliable each claim is:
| Claim | Source | Reliability |
|---|---|---|
| About twice the size of GTA 5 | Reported by several outlets from preview coverage | Reported, no direct Rockstar quote verified |
| Vice City about twice the size of Los Santos | Preview session reports | Reported, unconfirmed |
| Roughly 118 to 132 square miles, or 2.4 to 2.7 times GTA 5 | Fan mapping projects based on trailer footage | Community estimate |
| 1.5 to 2 times GTA 5 | Various fan estimates | Community estimate |
For context, GTA 5’s map is generally estimated at around 49 square miles (including its water areas), and Red Dead Redemption 2’s at around 29 square miles. A map twice the size of GTA 5 would make Leonida the largest map Rockstar has ever built.
Size isn’t everything, though. GTA 5’s map felt big partly because of how much empty countryside it had. The bigger change with Leonida looks like density: more enterable buildings, more people, more traffic and far more detail per block, especially in Vice City.
We’ll update this section with official numbers as soon as Rockstar or a hands-on report confirms them.
GTA 6 map vs GTA 5 map
| GTA 5 (Los Santos and Blaine County) | GTA 6 (Leonida) | |
|---|---|---|
| Based on | Southern California | Florida |
| Main city | Los Santos (Los Angeles) | Vice City (Miami) |
| Regions | City, desert, mountains, countryside | City, wetlands, islands, Gulf coast, industrial inland, national park |
| Water | Ocean around one island | Ocean, Gulf coast, island chain, swamps and rivers |
| Size | About 49 square miles | Not announced. Reported at about twice GTA 5 |
| Islands | Mostly one landmass | Leonida Keys island chain |
The biggest difference is variety. GTA 5 had a city, a desert and a mountain. Leonida has a city, an island chain, a wetland, a Gulf coast town, an industrial inland town and a national park, each with its own look.
Real places that inspired the GTA 6 map
Rockstar’s maps are always satirical versions of real places, and Leonida is full of Florida landmarks. Based on the trailers, fans have spotted versions of:
- Miami Beach and Ocean Drive, with art deco hotels and neon signs along the waterfront
- Downtown Miami, including its skyline and waterfront high-rises
- The Port of Miami, with cruise ships and cargo cranes
- The Overseas Highway, the long bridges that link the Florida Keys
- The Everglades, recreated as Grassrivers
- Florida’s Gulf coast towns, reflected in Port Gellhorn
- Florida’s sugar country, reflected in Ambrosia
It’s important to remember that these are inspirations, not copies. Rockstar compresses and remixes real geography, so don’t expect a one-to-one map of Florida.
Getting around Leonida
A bigger, wetter map means more ways to travel than in GTA 5. Here’s what the trailers and the August gameplay showcase have shown so far:
- Cars and motorbikes on Leonida’s highways, from Vice City’s waterfront to the long bridges of the Keys
- Boats and jet skis along the coast and between the islands of the Leonida Keys
- Airboats across the swamps of Grassrivers, one of the first things Rockstar showed
- Scooters around Vice City, shown as one of the side activities in the August showcase
- On foot, with a focus on detail in crowded areas like the beaches and nightlife strips
Water plays a much bigger role than in GTA 5. Between the Gulf coast, the Atlantic side, the Keys and the wetlands, expect a lot of routes where a boat is quicker than a car.
Weather, wildlife and the living world
Leonida isn’t just bigger, it’s busier. A few details that have been reported about the world:
- Hurricanes and storms. Forbes reported that the map will feature hurricanes. Rockstar hasn’t detailed how weather events work.
- Wildlife. The same report says Leonida has around 170 animal species. The trailers have shown alligators and other Florida wildlife, and the August showcase confirmed you can interact with animals.
- Crowds and social media. Every trailer shows Leonida’s residents filming, streaming and posting. Expect the world to react to what you do in ways GTA 5 never did.
Treat the hurricane and animal numbers as reported rather than confirmed until the game is out.
Where to start exploring on launch day
Once you’re free to roam, here’s how we’d approach the map:
- Explore Vice City first. It’s where most shops, missions and side activities are likely to be, and where you’ll spend the early game.
- Take a boat out to the Keys. The islands are some of the most striking views in the trailers, and boats are the fastest way between them.
- Save the wilderness for later. Grassrivers and Mount Kalaga are big, quieter areas that are more fun once you’ve got better vehicles.
- Use our map. We’ll be adding every location we find from launch day, so you can check what’s nearby before you set off.
What our interactive map will include after launch
When GTA 6 launches, we’ll start mapping Leonida region by region. Each location goes on the map only after we’ve visited it in the game. Here’s what we’re adding:
- Safehouses and properties you can buy or unlock
- Shops, including weapon stores, clothing stores and barbers
- Garages and car customization locations
- Rare car spawn locations
- Collectibles and hidden items
- Story mission start points, without spoilers
- Side activities, such as airboat tours, races and minigames
Bookmark this page and check back after November 19. The map updates as we play.
Will there be an official GTA 6 map?
Rockstar has included printed maps with its games before, including GTA 5’s physical copies. With GTA 6’s physical edition reportedly coming as a download code in a box, it’s not clear whether a printed map will be included this time.
If Rockstar publishes an official map, we’ll link to it here and line ours up with it.
