GTA 6 launch trailer: watch it, and everything it shows, captured on PS5
Rockstar's last big video before release is 90 seconds of Jason and Lucia, a helicopter vault heist and a new Justice song, all captured in-game on a standard PS5. Watch it here, then read what every scene tells us.

Rockstar released the GTA 6 launch trailer on October 15, 2026, five weeks before the game comes out. It’s 90 seconds long, it’s built around Jason and Lucia, and Rockstar says every frame was captured in-game on a PlayStation 5. That’s a standard PS5, not a PS5 Pro.
PlayStation posted its own copy of the trailer the same evening, with a link to pre-order on the PlayStation Store. Here it is, followed by everything it shows.

There are two official uploads, and they’re the same 90-second trailer:
| Channel | Title on YouTube | Posted |
|---|---|---|
| Rockstar Games | Grand Theft Auto VI Launch Trailer | October 15, 9am ET |
| PlayStation | Grand Theft Auto VI - Launch Trailer | PS5 Games | October 15, 8:30pm ET |
Rockstar’s upload passed 21 million views in its first day. The PlayStation version is the one embedded above. Its description links straight to the game’s PlayStation Store page and repeats the November 19, 2026 date.
Stick to these two channels and the official GTA 6 website. Re-uploads titled “leaked trailer” or “GTA 6 download” often put scam links in their descriptions. Our GTA 6 free download guide explains how those scams work.
What Rockstar says the trailer is about
Rockstar’s description of the trailer is the clearest summary of the story it has published so far:
“Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”
That’s a step on from Trailer 2, which introduced the pair and their relationship. The launch trailer adds the inciting event: a job that should have been easy, and a conspiracy that reaches across the whole state rather than just Vice City.
Every scene in the launch trailer, explained
The trailer is light on new gameplay and heavy on story. Here’s what it shows, in roughly the order it appears, based on the trailer and coverage from Vice, Pasquale Pillitteri, DualShockers and Wolf’s Gaming Blog.
Jason looks back on the army
The trailer opens on Jason, reflecting on his time in the military. He admits he got into trouble in the army, and the implication is that he didn’t leave on good terms and has struggled to find honest work since.
That fits his official character profile: a man who grew up around grifters and crooks, tried to straighten himself out in the army, and ended up working for Brian Heder, a drug runner in the Leonida Keys. Our GTA 6 characters guide has the full profiles.
Lucia calls from prison
Next, Lucia calls Jason from prison. It’s a callback to Trailer 1, which opened with her in a prison jumpsuit talking to a parole officer, and it suggests the story starts with the two of them apart.
The ankle monitor
The most discussed detail: Lucia wears an ankle monitor. It’s the first time it’s been shown clearly in-game, including in a short shower scene that cuts away quickly.
Rockstar hasn’t explained it. In the US, an ankle monitor usually means parole, probation or house arrest, so the likeliest reading is that Lucia gets out early under supervision. That would give the story a built-in source of tension: every job she takes with Jason risks sending her back. Our Lucia Caminos guide covers her backstory and what the monitor could mean in more detail.
Raul and Cal
Two supporting characters make brief appearances, according to Pasquale Pillitteri’s frame-by-frame coverage:
- Raul Bautista, the experienced bank robber who recruits new talent for his jobs
- Cal Hampton, Jason’s friend, who spends most of his time on conspiracy forums
Raul’s appearance fits the trailer’s heist footage. Cal’s matters because of the word Rockstar keeps using in its description: conspiracy.
The helicopter vault heist
The biggest set piece shows helicopters lifting part of a bank vault into a building. It expands a mission first shown in August’s 26-minute extended gameplay look, and it’s paired with shots of a vault being blown open.
GTA heists usually come with planning stages and crew choices. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed how GTA 6’s heists work, but our GTA 6 gameplay guide covers what the extended look showed.
Jason comes out of the water
Another new shot shows Jason and a group of armed men emerging from the water in tactical gear. It’s the kind of approach that suits the Leonida Keys and the Everglades, both of which are on our GTA 6 map.
Nightclubs, chases and cops
The rest of the trailer is a fast montage:
- Vice City nightclubs and neon nightlife
- Quiet moments between Jason and Lucia, including romantic scenes
- Car chases, dirt bikes and shootouts
- Several confrontations with police
It closes with the classic deep-voiced GTA narrator, then the November 19, 2026 release date.
The key art
Rockstar released new artwork with the trailer, used as the video’s thumbnail: Jason and Lucia holding pistols beside a red muscle car, with palm-lined Vice City streets at sunset behind them. Expect to see it on billboards, store displays and the game’s box.
Captured on PS5, not PS5 Pro
At the end of the trailer and in its YouTube description, Rockstar says: “This trailer was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5.”
That matters for three reasons:
- It’s not pre-rendered. What you see is the game engine running on console, not a separately made cinematic.
- It’s a standard PS5. Outlets including T3 point out it’s not the PS5 Pro. If this is how the base console looks, the cheapest current PlayStation gets the full experience.
- It’s the same as before. Trailer 2 was also captured on a standard PS5, and Rockstar repeated the point then too.
What it doesn’t tell you is the frame rate. Trailers are edited and cut, so you can’t judge in-game performance from them. Rockstar North has said GTA 6 was running at 30fps on consoles during development, and 60fps hasn’t been confirmed for any console. Our GTA 6 PS5 Pro guide has everything that’s actually been said about performance.
Why it’s on the PlayStation channel
PlayStation posting the trailer isn’t a coincidence. Sony has a marketing partnership with Rockstar for GTA 6, which Sony confirmed in May 2026, according to God is a Geek. That’s why the trailers carry PlayStation branding, and why GTA 6 appeared in Sony’s “It Happens on PS5” TV ad in August 2026.
It isn’t a PlayStation exclusive. GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on the same day, at the same $79.99 price. The marketing deal affects who promotes it, not who can play it. A PC version hasn’t been announced; our GTA 6 PC release date guide tracks the reports.
The song: Flower in a Hurricane by Justice
The trailer debuts “Flower in a Hurricane”, a new standalone single by Justice, the French electronic duo. It features Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
- Justice composed GTA 6’s original score, the music that plays during missions, as opposed to the licensed songs on the radio.
- The track is on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, the official soundtrack, which you can pre-save on streaming services and pre-order on vinyl or CD.
- It’s a change of direction from GTA 5’s ambient score by Tangerine Dream, and it suits Vice City’s nightlife.
Every previous trailer used a licensed song: Tom Petty’s “Love Is a Long Road” in Trailer 1 and The Pointer Sisters’ “Hot Together” in Trailer 2. This is the first to use original music made for the game. Our GTA 6 soundtrack guide lists every confirmed radio station and song.
How it compares with the other GTA 6 trailers
| Video | Released | Length | Captured on | Main song |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trailer 1 | December 4, 2023 | About 90 seconds | Not stated | Love Is a Long Road, Tom Petty |
| Trailer 2 | May 6, 2025 | About 2:45 | PS5 | Hot Together, The Pointer Sisters |
| Extended gameplay look | August 2026 | About 26 minutes | Not stated | Various |
| Launch trailer | October 15, 2026 | About 90 seconds | PS5 | Flower in a Hurricane, Justice |
Fans have been calling it “Trailer 3” for months, and that’s how many people will search for it. Rockstar calls it the launch trailer. Our GTA 6 trailer guide covers all four videos in detail.
What the launch trailer means for release
The launch trailer is the strongest sign yet that November 19, 2026 is final. Rockstar doesn’t usually release a launch trailer for a date it isn’t sure of, and this one came with pre-orders for the official soundtrack album.
Here’s what’s still to come:
| Date | What happens |
|---|---|
| October 15, 2026 | Launch trailer released |
| November 12, 2026 | Digital preload expected to start (reported) |
| November 19, 2026 | GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S |
| Release night | Unlock at midnight local time expected, not confirmed |
For exact unlock times in your country, see our GTA 6 release time guide. For preload sizes and dates, see the GTA 6 preload guide.
Should you pre-order after the trailer?
If the trailer has made up your mind, here’s what each edition costs in the US:
- Standard Edition: $79.99
- Ultimate Edition: $99.99
Pre-ordering digitally means you can preload and play the moment the game unlocks. Our GTA 6 editions and price guide compares what each edition includes, and our price by country guide lists the price in your currency.
If you’re wondering what $79.99 actually means in your budget, our GTA 6 Affordability Index works out how many hours of minimum-wage work it takes to buy the game in 13 countries.

Frequently asked questions
When did the GTA 6 launch trailer come out?
Rockstar released the GTA 6 launch trailer on October 15, 2026, at 9am ET (6am PT, 2pm UK). PlayStation posted its own copy on its YouTube channel later the same day.
How long is the GTA 6 launch trailer?
About 90 seconds. YouTube lists it at 1 minute 31 seconds.
Was the GTA 6 launch trailer captured on PS5 or PS5 Pro?
On a standard PS5. Rockstar's description says the trailer 'was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5', and it's not the PS5 Pro.
What song is in the GTA 6 launch trailer?
'Flower in a Hurricane' by Justice, featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. It's a new standalone single and it's on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album. Justice also composed the game's original score.
Is the GTA 6 launch trailer Trailer 3?
Fans have called it Trailer 3, because it's the third story trailer after Trailer 1 (December 2023) and Trailer 2 (May 2025). Rockstar calls it the launch trailer. Counting the 26-minute extended gameplay look from August 2026, it's the fourth major GTA 6 video.
Why does Lucia wear an ankle monitor in the trailer?
Rockstar hasn't explained it, but an ankle monitor usually means house arrest, parole or probation. Lucia was in prison in Trailer 1 and calls Jason from prison in the launch trailer, so the monitor suggests she's released under supervision at some point in the story.
Will there be another GTA 6 trailer before release?
Rockstar hasn't announced one. The launch trailer is normally the last major video, but expect TV ads, short clips and more radio station reveals before November 19, 2026.
