# Is GTA 6 on Game Pass or PS Plus? No, and here's when that could change

Microsoft has put plenty of huge games on Game Pass on day one. GTA 6 isn't going to be one of them.
**GTA 6 is not on Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus.** When it launches on **November 19, 2026**, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the only way to play it is to buy it: **$79.99** for the Standard Edition or **$99.99** for Ultimate in the US. Neither Rockstar, Sony nor Microsoft has announced a subscription release for later.
That's not a surprise if you've followed Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company. Its CEO has spent years explaining why its biggest games don't launch on subscriptions, and Rockstar's own history suggests a long wait before that changes. Here's the full picture, plus the part that matters on launch day: whether you need a subscription at all.

## Is GTA 6 on Xbox Game Pass?
No. There's no Game Pass badge on the GTA 6 store listing and no announcement from Microsoft or Rockstar. You can [preload it from November 10](/gta-6-preload/) like any other purchase, but you have to own it first.
The reason people keep asking is understandable. Microsoft has made day-one launches a selling point of Game Pass for years, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launched on the service in 2024. But Microsoft owns Call of Duty. It doesn't own Rockstar, and Take-Two has never put a mainline GTA or Red Dead game on a subscription at launch.
There's also a sign that the industry is moving the other way. According to Timesaver.gg's reporting on Microsoft's April 2026 Game Pass changes, future Call of Duty games no longer join Game Pass Ultimate at launch either.
## Is GTA 6 free with PlayStation Plus?
No. GTA 6 isn't included in PS Plus Essential, Extra or Premium. It's a standard purchase on the PlayStation Store.

## Why Take-Two keeps GTA 6 off subscriptions
Take-Two CEO **Strauss Zelnick** has been unusually direct about this. Speaking at GamesIndustry.biz's GI Live: Online in 2022, he said the company's skepticism was about "making frontline console products available day and date with subscription," and that subscriptions "can potentially be great for catalogue properties," older games whose price has already dropped.
In 2024, after Microsoft put Black Ops 6 on Game Pass, he was asked whether that pressure would change Take-Two's approach. His answer, as reported by Push Square and others: "No, it won't affect our decisions... Because our decisions are rational."
Our read: the maths makes the decision for him. Every subscriber playing through Game Pass is someone who didn't pay $79.99. Microsoft would have to write a cheque larger than those lost sales, and Take-Two has shown no interest in taking one.
## When could GTA 6 come to Game Pass or PS Plus?
Nobody has said, so any date is a guess. What we do have is Rockstar's track record, and it points to years, not months.

Two caveats. GTA 5's gap is partly because Game Pass didn't exist until 2017. And neither game stayed long: VGC reported in 2020 that Red Dead Redemption 2 joined Game Pass on **May 7, 2020**, replacing GTA 5, which had only arrived that January. Since then, GTA 5 has rotated in and out of both Game Pass and PS Plus Extra several times, according to Timesaver.gg's history of the service.
If GTA 6 followed Red Dead's faster pattern, an 18-month gap from November 2026 would land around mid-2028. That's an illustration, not a prediction. A GTA game still selling at full price has no reason to join a subscription, and GTA 5 sold for years before it did.
## Do you need Game Pass or PS Plus to play GTA 6?
Not for the story. On both consoles, a paid subscription is only required for **online multiplayer**, and GTA 6 launches as a single-player game. Buy it, download it, and you can play the whole campaign without PS Plus or Game Pass.

## What about GTA+?
The only subscription tied to GTA 6 right now is Rockstar's own. Reports say **digital pre-orders include one free month of GTA+**, Rockstar's membership. It's worth knowing what that actually is: GTA+ perks are built around **GTA Online**, so it isn't a way to get GTA 6 itself, and it renews at the full price unless you turn it off. ## Can you stream GTA 6 with Xbox Cloud Gaming?
Not as far as anyone knows. GTA 6 isn't in the Game Pass catalog, and Microsoft hasn't listed it among the games you can stream from the cloud if you own a copy. If that changes, it would be a convenience for people who already bought the game, not a way to play it through a subscription.
## The cheapest way to play GTA 6 instead
Since there's no subscription route, the savings are in how you buy:
- **The Standard Edition at $79.99** is the full game. Ultimate adds in-game extras such as cars, outfits and mod shops, not more story.
- **Discounted store gift cards** from major retailers work like a discount on the digital version.
- **Retailer pre-order deals** on boxed copies sometimes beat the digital price.
