GTA 6 price and editions: Standard vs Ultimate, and which one to buy
There are only two editions of GTA 6, and the gap between them is $20. Here's exactly what you get with each, what the pre-order bonus is, and how to decide.

GTA 6 costs $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition in the US. Those are the only two editions. There’s no Special Edition, Collector’s Edition or physical bundle with a map and steelbook, which is a change from how Rockstar has handled past launches.
Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, and the game launches on Thursday, November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Here’s what each edition includes, and how to decide which one you need.
GTA 6 price at a glance
| Edition | US price | Europe price | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | $79.99 | €79.99 | The full game, plus the pre-order bonus if you pre-order |
| Ultimate | $99.99 | €99.99 | The full game, Ultimate in-game content, plus the pre-order bonus if you pre-order |
At $79.99, GTA 6 is priced above the $69.99 that’s been standard for big console games since 2020. Only a handful of major games have launched at $79.99 for the base edition. Given that GTA 5 is one of the best-selling games ever made and GTA 6 has been in development for about eight years, a higher price was always likely.
Prices outside the US and Europe depend on your local store and currency. Before you buy, check the price on your own region’s PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store, since the US and euro prices don’t convert neatly into other currencies.
How GTA 6’s price compares with past Rockstar games
GTA 6’s base price is higher than any previous Rockstar launch, but its top edition costs the same as Red Dead Redemption 2’s did.
| Game | Year | Base edition | Top digital edition |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA 5 | 2013 | $59.99 | $59.99 (Special and Collector’s were physical extras) |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | 2018 | $59.99 | $99.99 Ultimate Edition |
| GTA 6 | 2026 | $79.99 | $99.99 Ultimate Edition |
So the jump is really at the bottom end: the cheapest way into GTA 6 costs $20 more than the cheapest way into Red Dead Redemption 2 did. The trade-off is simpler choices, with two editions instead of three or four.
What’s in the GTA 6 Standard Edition?
The Standard Edition is the complete GTA 6 story mode. You get:
- The full single-player story starring Lucia and Jason
- The entire state of Leonida to explore, from Vice City to Mount Kalaga
- The Vintage Vice City Pack if you pre-order
Nothing in the main story is locked behind the Ultimate Edition. If you just want to play GTA 6, the Standard Edition is the whole game.
What’s in the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition?
The Ultimate Edition includes everything in the Standard Edition, plus extra in-game content. Based on Rockstar’s store listing and coverage of the pre-order launch, that includes:
- Exclusive vehicles you can’t get in the Standard Edition
- Exclusive weapons
- Extra clothing and apparel
- Additional side missions
- Ultimate-only shops and a tattoo parlor, according to some guides
For the full and current list, check the store page on your console before you buy. Rockstar’s descriptions are the only definitive source, and edition contents sometimes get clarified closer to launch.
Is the Ultimate Edition worth $20 more?
It comes down to how you play:
Get the Ultimate Edition if:
- You know you’ll put 100+ hours into GTA 6 and want every side mission
- You like collecting cars, weapons and outfits
- You’d buy the extra content later anyway, since buying it upfront is usually the cheapest route
Stick with the Standard Edition if:
- You mainly want the story
- You’re not sure how much time you’ll have to play
- You’d rather wait for reviews and player opinions on the extra side missions before spending more
Because you can reportedly upgrade from Standard to Ultimate after launch, the Standard Edition is the lower-risk choice. You can play for a week, see whether you want more, and upgrade then.
The GTA 6 pre-order bonus: Vintage Vice City Pack
Pre-orders of both editions include the Vintage Vice City Pack. Rockstar hasn’t itemized everything in it, but the name points to retro-themed items, a likely nod to 2002’s GTA: Vice City, the last time the series visited its version of Miami.
Sources disagree on the exact deadline. Some say the pack is included with pre-orders placed before launch on November 19, others with purchases made up to November 20. To be safe, pre-order before November 19 if you want the pack.
Is there a free month of GTA+?
Some reports say digital pre-orders also include one free month of GTA+, Rockstar’s subscription service. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed the details for GTA 6, so check what your store page lists. If you do get it, remember that GTA+ renews automatically at the full price unless you cancel it before the free month ends.
Digital vs physical: which should you buy?
Both versions cost the same, but there’s a big catch with the physical edition: it reportedly comes as a download code in a box, not a disc.
| Digital | Physical | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $79.99 / $99.99 | $79.99 / $99.99 (retailers may discount) |
| Preload from November 12 | Yes | Yes, after you redeem the code |
| Needs a download | Yes | Yes |
| Can be resold or lent out | No | Not once the code is redeemed |
| Works on PS5 Digital Edition and Xbox Series S | Yes | Yes |
That last row is the one upside: since there’s no disc, the physical version works on consoles without a disc drive.
The real advantage of physical is the price. Retailers sometimes discount physical games or bundle them with gift cards, while the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store usually stick to full price at launch. If you find a physical copy cheaper than the digital price, it’s effectively the same product.
Where to buy GTA 6
- PlayStation Store for PS5, digital
- Microsoft Store for Xbox Series X|S, digital
- Major retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, Target, Best Buy and GameStop in the US, plus local retailers elsewhere, for the physical code-in-a-box edition
Buy from official stores and well-known retailers only. Be wary of key-reseller sites selling GTA 6 cheaply before launch. Region-locked or stolen codes can be revoked, and you’ll have no way to get your money back.
Ways to pay less for GTA 6
The official stores are unlikely to discount GTA 6 at launch, but there are a few legitimate ways to bring the cost down:
- Retailer pre-order discounts. Physical retailers sometimes knock a few dollars off big pre-orders, or offer store credit with them. Since the physical edition is a code in a box anyway, you lose nothing by buying it there.
- Discounted store gift cards. Retailers occasionally sell PlayStation Store or Xbox gift cards at a discount during sales. Buying credit cheaply and using it on GTA 6 works out the same as a discount.
- Membership and rewards programs. Some retailer loyalty programs give extra points or a small discount on new games.
- Waiting. Rockstar games hold their price for a long time, so this only makes sense if you’re happy to wait months or longer.
Avoid grey-market key sites. Cheap GTA 6 codes on unofficial reseller sites are often bought with stolen cards or from other regions, and they can be revoked after you redeem them.
Do you need PlayStation Plus or Game Pass to play GTA 6?
Not for the story. GTA 6’s single-player campaign doesn’t need a subscription on either console.
For online play, almost certainly yes. Online multiplayer on PS5 needs PlayStation Plus, and on Xbox it needs a Game Pass tier that includes online multiplayer. That’s been true for GTA Online on console, and there’s no reason to expect GTA 6 to be different. Rockstar hasn’t detailed GTA 6’s online mode yet, though, so we’ll confirm once it does.
Is GTA 6 coming to Game Pass or PlayStation Plus? There’s been no announcement either way. Rockstar’s big releases haven’t launched on subscription services before, so plan to buy it.
PS5 or Xbox: does it matter which you buy?
GTA 6 costs the same on both, and there’s no announced content exclusive to either console. The main differences are performance and storage:
- PS5 Pro owners may see enhanced visuals or performance, but Rockstar hasn’t detailed a PS5 Pro mode yet.
- Xbox Series S has the smallest drive of any current console. Read our preload and file size guide to plan ahead.
Your edition and save are tied to the platform you buy on. There’s no cross-buy between PlayStation and Xbox, and Rockstar hasn’t announced cross-save.
Will GTA 6 come to PC, and will it cost the same?
Rockstar hasn’t announced a PC version. A GamesBeat report says it’s planned for early 2027. Rockstar’s past PC releases have launched at the same price as the console versions. Our GTA 6 PC release date article covers everything that’s been reported.
The bottom line
The GTA 6 Standard Edition is $79.99 and includes the complete game. The Ultimate Edition is $99.99 and adds exclusive vehicles, weapons, outfits and side missions. Pre-order either one before November 19 to get the Vintage Vice City Pack.
If you’re unsure, buy the Standard Edition. You can reportedly upgrade to Ultimate later, and the story is the same either way. Then check exactly when GTA 6 unlocks in your time zone.
